In commemoration of Prof. Alfred Saupe, the Alfred-Saupe-Stiftung - Alfred Saupe Foundation - together with the German Liquid Crystal Society (DFKG) awards the Alfred Saupe Prize to outstanding individuals from all areas of research and technology involving liquid crystals and mesophases. This year Alfred-Saupe Medal was awarded to Professor Ágnes Buka from Institute for Solid State Physics and Optics, Wigner Research Centre for Physics, Hungarian Academy of Science for her outstanding work in Physics of liquid crystals.

This year Alfred-Saupe Medal was awarded to Professor José Luis Serrano Ostáriz from University of Zaragoza for his outstanding work in Chemistry of liquid crystals.

This year Alfred-Saupe Medal was awarded to Professor Antal István Jákli from Kent State University for his Outstanding Work in the Field of Research on Liquid Crystals and their Technical Application

This year Alfred-Saupe Medal was awarded to Professor Pawel Pieranski from Université Paris-Sud for his outstanding contributions to the field of physics of liquid crystals.

Prof. Dr. Wim H. de Jeu (RWTH Aachen) was honoured by the Alfred Saupe Prize for his consistent contributions to the field of X-ray and other characterisation techniques of liquid crystals.
2017
Alfred Saupe Preis was awarded to Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Weißflog und Prof. Dr. Gerhard Pelzl. This award acknowledges their outstanding scientific merits, their high reputation in the scientific community, and their extraordinary lifetime achievements in liquid crystal research.
